Ever seen a sparkstottingar?
Can you pronounce the name? Spark means 'kick' in Swedish;
Anglophiles
call these cool travel modes, kick sleds. With or without a passenger, they're a load of fun. Best of all, you needn't be a marathon athlete to race. Most of the Beaver Creek contestants have never seen a 'spark' before, so the 'kicking' field is pretty level. Norden Folk's spark race continues to be coordinated with a similar organization in Western Dalarna, Sweden. In the community of Nås, Nås Bygdegårdsförening will be hosting their third, annual race. We will be exchanging video footage to further promote the dual events. Eau Claire Community TV will eventually air a film of Norden Folk's activities and events, in which selected footage from both races will appear. For additional fun we offer the chance to WIN BIG with a BEST DRESSED and a LEAST dressed race contest. So use your imagination, search your roommate's closet, the local used clothing store, or your grandmother's attic and come up with a cool costume that will put YOU in the winning circle. By the way these two categories don't require crossing the finish line to win. All decisions of the judges---the spectators, are final, judging the “dressed” categories by their applause. We cooperate with a organization in Nås, Dalarna, Sweden. The Nås Bygdegårdsförening host an annual competition of team racing for fun. Sparkloppet...or, spark races, have occurred in Scandinavia for years but the only place that has as much fun as we---is in Nås and it may be because sparkstottingar are only manufactured in that Swedish province nowdays... http://www.vansbrosparkfabrik.se/ Whatever the reason, they're a fun mode of transportation...and even more fun to race.
